The International Day of the Caspian Sea is a date celebrated on August 12 by five Caspian littoral states: Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan. On this day in 2006, the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Caspian Sea and the Environment from Pollution entered into force. The document was signed on August 12, 2006 in Tehran.
Our company has a direct relationship to this holiday. The scope of Kazhydromet's activities in the Caspian region includes the implementation of the state program for conducting hydrometeorological and environmental monitoring of the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea, one of the main tasks of which is to conduct systematic regime observations of hydrometeorological and hydrochemical characteristics in the Caspian Sea region.
Currently, coastal marine observations are being carried out at four marine hydrometeorological stations and six posts.
Within the Atyrau region, hydrological work is carried out at hydraulic posts on the Zhaiyk River (Ural), in the Volga delta on the Emba River. The observational meteorological network in the Caspian region consists of 24 weather stations. Eight weather stations are international exchange stations. The analysis of dangerous meteorological phenomena is regularly carried out.
RSE " Kazhydromet "within the framework of the budget subprogram" Conducting observations of the state of the environment " monitors the water quality of the Caspian Sea. The quality of sea waters is determined by 45 indicators. Monitoring of bottom sediments, hydrobiological monitoring at sea is carried out.
To monitor the state of the level surface of the Caspian Sea and predict its fluctuations, Kazhydromet uses an automated method for predicting the level of the Caspian Sea and current fields in a given area for every hour with a lead time of up to 120 hours, including overrunning phenomena.
Information from Kazakhstan sea stations and information coming from the European Center for Medium-term Weather Forecasts in accordance with the license agreement are used as input data. In the event of a threat of particularly dangerous overtaking situations, storm warnings are issued. If necessary, specialized forecasts of wind currents are also made. A bulletin on the Caspian Sea is published weekly.
Forecasts of the wave situation are of great importance for the regions of the Middle Caspian Sea. Kazhydromet issues forecasts of unrest for 3 squares of the open water area and 2 ports. A weekly newsletter on excitement is published.
To improve the prediction of waves, the specialists of RSE" Kazhydromet " adapted the SWAN wave spectral model to the conditions of the Caspian Sea, which is implemented in operational practice.
Since the Caspian Sea belongs to seas with seasonal ice cover, we conduct research on the ice regime and monitor the ice situation in the Caspian Sea. In winter, reviews of the ice situation are issued, which are compiled on the basis of data received 2 times a day from Kazakh and Russian stations and posts, and the analysis of satellite images.
Forecasts of the ice situation are of great importance, especially during the period of ice formation and destruction of the ice cover. We issue advisory forecasts based on a global forecasting system taking into account remote sensing data.
Kazhydromet issues a reference book " Annual data on the regime of the Caspian Sea, the Kazakh coast. Reviews of natural hydrometeorological phenomena observed on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan are published twice a year, where information on the Caspian Sea is also placed.
The analysis of the state of the water surface and ice conditions is included in the National Report and the Annual Bulletin on the State of Climate Change in the RA6 region.
We are engaged in specialized research of various areas of the Caspian Sea at the request of consumers, conduct research work on the assessment of its hydrometeorological regime of the Caspian Sea, modern climate change in the region. The results of the research are being implemented in operational practice.
The staff of RSE" Kazhydromet " congratulates everyone whose professional activity is related to hydrometeorology and environmental protection of the Caspian Sea. We wish you success in this difficult and noble task, new initiatives and their successful implementation!
