On September 28-30, 2021, the XVII Forum of Interregional Cooperation of Kazakhstan and Russia with the participation of heads of state on the topic is being held online: "Cooperation in the field of ecology and green growth". Within the framework of the forum, a panel session was held on the topics: "Transboundary water bodies".
Specialists of RSE "Kazhydromet" made a report at the session: "Hydrological, hydrochemical monitoring of surface waters of the Zhaiyk and Ertis river basins. International cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia on the transboundary rivers Zhaiyk and Ertis".
The results of the assessment of the quality of surface waters in Kazakhstan (130 water bodies, including 84 rivers, 29 lakes, 13 reservoirs, 3 channels and 1 sea) are published on a regular basis by RSE "Kazhydromet" on a specially developed map of environmental monitoring of surface waters http://ecodata.kz:3838/app_dem_water_visual . The agency's specialists assess the water quality according to a Unified classification system consisting of five pollution classes, where the first class is the cleanest water, the fifth is the dirtiest.
In the first half of this year, out of 107 water bodies that were checked, 40 rivers and reservoirs were classified as the worst water quality. And 33 of the worst facilities have a high level of pollution, and the water of these rivers and reservoirs is unsuitable for any type of water use. These include 27 rivers in Atyrau, Aktobe, Kostanay, Karaganda, Zhambyl, Kostanay, Akmola, Turkestan regions, Western and Eastern Kazakhstan, six reservoirs in the north and south of the country.
The main pollutants in surface water bodies are the main salt ions, biogenic and organic compounds, heavy metals, phenols, suspended solids. The excess of quality standards according to these indicators is due to natural and climatic and anthropogenic factors, historical pollution, wastewater discharge of enterprises of various economic orientation and municipal enterprises.
Within the framework of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Russian Federation on the Joint use and Protection of Transboundary Water Bodies, Kazhydromet also performs joint water sampling and exchange of hydrochemical information on transboundary rivers.
The exchange of hydrochemical data is carried out in the basins of the rivers Ertis, Yesil, Toyl, Zhaiyk, Karaozen, Saryozen, Kigash through the Committee on Water Resources of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Joint sampling is carried out along the rivers Zhaiyk, Elek, Karaozen, Saryozen, Yesil, Tobyl, Ayet.
