In the first decade of January in the south and south-east of the republic in the areas of cultivation of winter crops, the temperature background was higher than normal by 3 ... 6C, in the West Kazakhstan region by 2C. Precipitation was mostly more than normal, except for the Almaty region, where it fell less than normal.
An intense thaw that took place within 3-9 days in Almaty region, within 1-3 days in Zhambyl region and within 2-4 days in Turkestan region could lead to a loss of hardening of winter wheat, which contributes to a decrease in winter hardiness of plants.
The absence of snow cover in the fields in Zhambyl region (except for Tasaryk stations 6 cm), in some places in Almaty and Turkestan regions, may affect the passage of winter wheat overwintering in severe frosts.
The minimum soil temperature at a depth (3 cm) of the winter wheat tillering node in the Almaty region ranged from 0C to minus 7C, in the Zhambyl region to minus 1C and in the Turkestan region from 0C to minus 1C.
On the territory of pastoral livestock, the weather was warmer than in the previous decade, precipitation fell everywhere, but unevenly.
Stable snow cover is observed in the main territory of pasture livestock, snow cover is absent in the Zhambyl and Turkestan regions.
