In the third decade of January, in the areas of winter crops cultivation in the south and south-east of the republic, the temperature background was mainly above normal by 1 ...6 ° C and in the west from 0 to plus 7 ° C, precipitation was mainly below normal.
Frequent thaws in the south and southeast for up to 5-8 days, alternating with nighttime negative air temperatures in the south to minus 12 ° C and in the southeast to minus 10 ... 19 ° C, in places in the Almaty region to minus 22...27 ° C, may cause damage to poorly developed plants on winter wheat crops.
In the Almaty region, in the areas of winter crops cultivation, the average decadal air temperature was minus 2 ...8 ° C, in mountainous and foothill areas minus 12...16 ° C, with a snow cover height of 2 to 4 cm, in places 9-15 cm, which created satisfactory conditions for overwintering winter crops.
In Zhambyl and Turkestan regions, the average decadal air temperature was minus 1...7 ° C, snow cover was mostly absent, in places it reached 2-3 cm, which, with a decrease in air temperature, can affect the conditions of overwintering crops.
In the observed areas in the vicinity of Shymkent station, the termination of winter wheat vegetation is noted.
In the West Kazakhstan region, in the areas of winter grain crops cultivation, a stable snow cover (21-29 cm) remains, which had a protective effect on plants, so the low temperature on the soil surface (minus 25-26 ° C) was not so dangerous for overwintering.
