The reserves of productive soil moisture in autumn characterize the available moisture resources formed during September-November and are used to assess spring moisture.
According to the results of route surveys conducted in October-November 2022, there is a shortage of moisture reserves in the meter layer of soil in the predominant territory of grain-growing regions before going into winter.
Low moisture reserves prevail in the arable soil layer (0-20 cm) throughout the country.
The exceptions are Terektinsky, Syrymsky, partially Zelenovsky and Chingirlau districts of West Kazakhstan region, Martuksky district of Aktobe region, partially Karasu, Mendykarinsky, Uzynkol districts and B.Maylin district of Kostanay region, as well as in North Kazakhstan region northwest of Kyzylzhar district, north of Zhambyl district, partly Musrepovsky and Ayyrtau districts, in Akmola region, Shortandinsky and Zerendinsky districts, Kokpektinsky district of Abay and Altai district of East Kazakhstan region.
In the south and south-east of the country, the arable soil layer is mainly dominated by satisfactory and optimal soil moisture conditions.
In the meter layer of soil, the insufficient level of moisture reserves was mainly formed in the west, north, center, and east of the republic. The most favorable humidification conditions developed in the south and south-east of Kazakhstan, where satisfactory and optimal moisture reserves were mainly observed in the meter layer of soil.
