The expected volume of spring flood runoff on the lowland rivers of Kazakhstan is compiled according to hydrometeorological observations and measurements as of February 01, 2023. The main flood forecast will be made in March 2023.
In case of high temperature background and heavy rains in February, high talo-rain floods are possible along the mountain rivers of the south, south-east and east of Kazakhstan.
However, winter continues and, accordingly, the period of snow accumulation continues (according to long-term observations, a monthly precipitation rate may fall in the pre-spring period per day).
The depth of soil freezing is higher than last year's indicators on average from 3 to 84 cm in Karaganda, Ulytau, Akmola, West Kazakhstan, Atyrau and Aktobe regions. Lower than last year's figures on average from 7 to 40 cm in Akmola, North Kazakhstan and Kostanay regions.
The water reserves in the snow cover in the basins of the lowland rivers of Kazakhstan are characterized by great unevenness: in Akmola, Ulytau, Kostanay, Aktobe, West Kazakhstan and Atyrau regions are below the average annual values; in Karaganda and North Kazakhstan regions within the average annual values.
According to the advisory synoptic weather forecast, February 2023 is expected to be about normal in most of the country, mainly warm and sedimentary in the southern and eastern regions of the republic.
