The Second meeting of the Coordination Group on Hydrology of the Countries of the Regional Association II (Asia) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is taking place in Bangkok, Thailand from February 21 to 23, 2023. From Kazakhstan, the representative of RSE "Kazhydromet" Tursyn Tillakarim – head of the Department of modeling of hydrological processes and hydrological calculations participated in the events.
In her report, the Kazakh hydrologist briefly spoke about the state and prospects of water resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan. She emphasized that in order to implement and apply HydroSOS, it is necessary to create a hydrological database, improve hydrological forecasting methods for seasonal and sub-seasonal periods and integrate hydrological forecasting methods into the HydroSOS system.
The HydroSOS system is a global monitoring system for assessing and forecasting the hydrological conditions of water bodies. HydroSOS builds on existing and planned WMO initiatives regarding hydrological monitoring, data exchange and meteorological forecasting. HydroSOS as a whole is aimed at creating a unique operational system that provides up-to-date hydrological information for hydrometeorological services and the population.
