Published 24.11.2023 From November 22 to 24, 2023, the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Mudflow safety, 50 years of Kazselezashchita activity: results, efficiency, prospects" was held. The conference was attended by representatives of various organizations dealing with the problem of mudflows in Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Russia and Uzbekistan.
The work of the conference began with the presentation of state and departmental awards to current employees and veterans of the State Institution "Kazselezashchita". Roza Yafyazova, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Head of the Department for Research of Mudflow Processes and Forecasting of mudflows of RSE "Kazhydromet", was awarded the Fleishman Medal for outstanding achievements in the field of mudflow studies.
The purpose of the conference is to exchange experience in assessing the risk of glacial lake breakout and practical measures to reduce the risk of their breakout, as well as improving the system of early detection of natural emergencies. Kazhydromet specialists - Professor, Doctor of Geographical Sciences Boris Stepanov and Doctor of Technical Sciences Rosa Yafyazova made a report on the nature of ice mudflows and ways to prevent them.
RSE "Kazhydromet" in the mudflow-prone period (from May to September) issues a Daily bulletin of mudflow hazard of rain genesis, makes consultations on mudflow hazard and ultra-short-term forecasts of catastrophic mudflows, as well as storm warnings.
