In May, the transition to summer atmospheric processes occurs. According to long-term data, in the southern regions frosts already end in the first half of the month, and in the northern regions - at the end of the month, but in some years late frosts can occur at the end of the month and even in June.
Unstable weather: rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely throughout the month, with hail on some days.
For most of the month, a predominance of days with high temperatures is expected:
in the northern half of the republic during the day the air can warm up to +25+35°C;
in the southern half up to +30+40°C.
During cold waves, a decrease in air temperature is expected:
in the northern, eastern and central regions, as well as in the mountainous regions of the southeast of the country at night up to -5+5°C, during the day up to +10+15°C;
in the west and in the southern half of the Republic of Kazakhstan - at night up to +5+15°C, during the day up to +16+26°C.
In May, the average monthly air temperature is expected to be 1-2° above normal in most parts of the republic, near normal in the western regions of the country.
The amount of precipitation in May is predicted to be around normal in most parts of the republic, above normal in the far west of the country, below normal in the southern and central regions of Kazakhstan.
