On November 21, 2024, a leadership lecture on the development and release of long-term weather forecasts was held in an online format. The event was organized for students and teachers of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in order to improve the quality of professional training.
The lecture was conducted by Kazhydromet specialists:
• Zhuldyz Isabekova, Head of the Department of Long-term Weather Forecasts,
• Symbat Oser, engineer of the 1st category.
They spoke in detail about modern approaches to weather forecasting, including:
• using the method of the year-analog;
• application of numerical hydrodynamic models from 13 leading global predictive centers;
• using data from the Regional North Eurasian Climate Center, the Main Geophysical Observatory and the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia.
Examples of the practical application of forecasting methods caused a lively discussion. The participants actively asked questions, being interested in the specifics of the methods and their accuracy. As part of the lecture, it was proposed to use the specialized software "ARM long-term weather forecaster" in the educational process of the department.
The event was an important step in strengthening the interaction between science and education. It demonstrated how theoretical knowledge and practical tools can be successfully integrated to train highly qualified specialists in the field of meteorology.
