On November 28, 2024, the Eighth Forum of Hydrological Consultants RA II (Asian Region), organized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), was held in an online format. The event brought together experts from different Asian countries to share experiences and discuss topical issues of hydrology.
The forum summed up the results of the third in-person meeting of the Coordination Group on Hydrology and presented a presentation by Kazhydromet on the topic: "Improvement of long-term forecasting of high water and low-water runoff in conditions of limited hydrometeorological data."
Specialists of the National Hydrological Service of Kazakhstan spoke about the key forecasting methods:
• the use of operational hydrological forecasting methods;
• adaptation of numerical models for climatic and geographical conditions of Kazakhstan.
Kazhydromet also introduced a new long-term forecasting methodology based on a predictor that evaluates soil moisture capacity before and after high water, which helps to improve the accuracy of forecasts.
The Forum has become an important platform for strengthening cooperation between the hydrological services of Asian countries and the exchange of best practices. He stressed the importance of introducing innovations to improve the quality of forecasts, especially in regions prone to floods and droughts.
