Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alibek Kuantyrov visited the central office of the RSE “Kazhydromet”, where he familiarized himself with the activities of the national hydrometeorological service, its modern technological capabilities, scientific and technical potential, and key development priorities.

During the visit, the Minister was introduced to the work of the Hydrometeorological Centre, the Environmental Pollution Monitoring Testing Laboratory, and the Verification Laboratory. Specialists presented the main operational processes, equipment in use, research methods, and measurement quality control procedures.

Particular attention was paid to the technological development of RSE “Kazhydromet”. In 2026, the organization achieved a significant technological breakthrough by implementing the high-resolution American-developed Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) mesoscale model with a spatial resolution of 2 km, running on the supercomputer of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. In addition, a 6 km resolution model with artificial intelligence-based post-processing of data was deployed on the Alem Cloud platform. The introduction of these technologies makes it possible to improve the accuracy and detail of meteorological forecasts.

Today, RSE “Kazhydromet” is one of the country's key infrastructure organizations in the fields of hydrometeorology and environmental monitoring. The organization also performs an important regional function as a regional centre for the dissemination of hydrological and meteorological information.

The implementation of the Flash Flood Guidance System (FFGS) holds a special place in the organization's international activities. Kazakhstan serves as the FFGS Regional Centre for Central Asia and is among the 16 regional centres of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) worldwide. This demonstrates Kazakhstan's important role in promoting regional cooperation and strengthening early warning systems for hazardous hydrological events.

The meeting also addressed current challenges and key issues facing the hydrometeorological service, including further modernization of the observation network, technical upgrading, development of information systems, and strengthening of production infrastructure.

Following the visit, prospective areas for the further development of RSE “Kazhydromet” were discussed. These priorities are aimed at improving the quality of hydrometeorological services, enhancing environmental monitoring systems, and introducing advanced technologies.
