Long-term meteorological observations are part of humanity's irreplaceable cultural and scientific heritage, serving the needs of present and future generations for long-term, high-quality climate records.
Meteorological observations are a unique source of information about atmospheric parameters and thus serve as a reference for assessing climate variability and changes.
In 2017, the first list of WMO centenary observation stations was highly noted and recognized at a meeting of the Executive Board of the world Meteorological Organization.
To date, the WMO lists include 8 weather stations in Kazakhstan: "Akkol", "Aral Tenizi", "Atbasar", "Irgiz", "Kazaly", "Mikhailovka", "Turkestan", "Zharkent".
Kazakhstan has more than 35 meteorological stations with a century-long history of observations. All centenary weather stations in Kazakhstan will be recognized by the world community in stages.
