The Forum was also attended by the Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization Petteri Taalas, the Vice-President of the Republic of Turkey Fuat Oktay, as well as the leadership of the ministries and National Hydrometeorological Services of the Republic of Turkey, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Northern Cyprus, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Vice-Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serikkali Brekeshev congratulated the Turkish State Meteorological Service on the 84th anniversary of its foundation and made a report on the importance of meteorological infrastructure in improving disaster resilience in the Turkic world.
Emphasizing the need for timely warning of extreme weather events for various sectors of the economy and for the population as a whole, the Vice Minister noted that weather is an integral part of our lives. In this regard, such meetings serve as an effective platform for cooperation and allow us to jointly improve work in the field of hydrometeorological monitoring and forecasting.
"To improve our work, we must constantly improve our working methods and improve the quality of our products. Weather events cannot be planned using only the data of one's own country, so cooperation with other meteorological services, exchange of data, experience and professional development of specialists is an important and integral part, " Serikkali Brekeshev said.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to discuss the possibility of creating a Working Group to prepare a strategic and scientific plan for meteorology and hydrology, as well as a web page of the "Forum of the Turkic World on Meteorology", in order to exchange best practices, international scholarships and project opportunities.
