Annual meetings on the ecological status of the Zhem and Oyil river basins

In the period of February 22-25, 2021, employees of RSE "Kazhydromet": Deputy General Director Serik Sairov, Director of the Research Center Nurlan Abayev, as part of the commission for a comprehensive study of the environmental situation in the basins of the small rivers Zhem and Oyil, participated in field meetings.
Meetings were held with aksakals, eco-activists and the population of Mugalzhar, Temir, Oyil, Kyzylkogin, Zhylyoy districts of Aktobe and Atyrau regions, which directly use the water resources of small rivers in the region. During the meetings, the focus was on the ecological status of the Zhem and Oyil rivers, the problems of redistribution and water use.
The population of the region expressed concern about the deterioration of the ecological state of the rivers, as well as the trend of flow changes in the direction of reduction. Topical issues of water consumption, opportunities and proposals for their solution were voiced. All questions and suggestions were considered by the commission on the spot.
During the trip, the employees of the RSE "Kazhydromet" made reports on the current state of the rivers and shared with the population the primary results of the study of changes in the flow of the Zhem and Oyil rivers.
In the future, work on the study of changes in the flow of small rivers will continue and in the next spring-summer period, the second stage is planned for a comprehensive study of the confluence of the Zhem and Oyil rivers. In this regard, an expedition is expected to study the current situation in the river basins on the spot.
