RSE "Kazhydromet" has released the next weekly hydrological forecast for the period of March 13-19, 2021. The area of the territory of Kazakhstan covered with snow calculated by RSE "Kazhydromet" for the period 04.03-11.03.2021, according to NASA satellite images, decreased from 64% to 62 %.
For most of the period, the North-West anticyclone will cause frosty weather mainly without precipitation on the territory of Kazakhstan, however, in the south, south-east and east of Kazakhstan, against the background of the aggravation of baric formations, precipitation will occur, at the beginning of the period, heavy precipitation (rain, snow) is expected, in connection with which the formation of slope runoff in these regions is expected. By the end of the period, the Atlantic cyclone will cause precipitation and an increase in air temperature, first in the west, and then in the rest of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Further snowmelt, weakening of ice phenomena and rising water levels in the rivers of the lowland and mountainous territories of Kazakhstan are expected.
On the mountain rivers of East Kazakhstan, Turkestan, Zhambyl and Almaty regions, the flood runoff formed on the territory of the country depends on heavy precipitation.
For the mountain rivers of East Kazakhstan region, Almaty, Zhambyl and Turkestan regions, snow reserves are determined according to 25 snow measuring routes once a month. The average length of one snow-measuring route is 100 km. Accordingly, the following data on snow reserves for mountain rivers will be presented in the first days of April 2021.
