In most of Kazakhstan, the air temperature was about the climatic norm, and the actual amount of precipitation was 1.5-9 times more than the monthly norm.
In March of this year, frequent cyclonic activity was observed, which led to heavy precipitation, even on some days more than the monthly norm of precipitation fell per day. So, for example, on March 23, in the capital of our republic in Nur-Sultan, there was a snowfall, a blizzard with visibility of 200-500 meters, 26 mm fell per day, with a norm of 18 mm per month, and in the Mangystau region on March 28, 90 mm fell at the Beineu weather station (with a norm of 11 mm), and there were not a few such examples this month. In addition, there was an increase in winds of 15-20, in some areas 23-28 m/s, in the north-west, north, center, south and south-east of the country there was a hurricane wind with gusts up to 30-34 m/s, in the area of Zhalanashkol the wind reached a speed of 42 m/s. In the north of the republic, this wind was accompanied by heavy snowfalls and blizzards with visibility of 50-200 meters, as well as fog and ice phenomena. Dust storms were observed in the south and south-west of the country (on March 17, a strong dust storm with visibility up to 50 meters was observed at the Beineu weather station).
In the first decade of the month, with the removal of warm air masses from the regions of Iran, there was a significant increase in air temperature throughout the republic. In the northern half of the day, the air warmed up to 0,+6°C, while in the southern half of the country, it warmed up to +13+20°C.
In the second decade of March, an extensive anticyclone was established over the territory of Kazakhstan, which led to a significant decrease in air temperature at night: in the north, north-west, in the center and in the east of the country to-24-32°C, and in the southern and south-eastern regions - to-8-19°C.
In the third decade, with the passage of a series of cyclones, and under the influence of warm air masses, the air temperature gradually increased again: in the northern half to 0,+8°C, in the southern to +13+20°C.
However, it is worth noting that during the month no temperature records were noted.
The lowest air temperature in the capital was recorded on March 13 and was -27.5°C, the absolute minimum for this day is -31.7°C, which was recorded in 1931, and the highest air temperature was recorded on March 19, 2021 and was + 3.0°C, the absolute maximum for this day is +10.6°C, which was recorded in 2013.
