The Hydrological Service is one of the main production divisions of the RSE "Kazhydromet", the tasks of which is to provide timely and high-quality state bodies, the population and sectors of the economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan with regime, operational and predictive hydrological information about the water bodies of the country.
Hydrological monitoring is carried out at 377 hydrological posts:
1. 329 river posts;
2. 38 lake posts;
3. 10 sea stations and posts.
Every day, 2 times a day, observations are made of the water level, water temperature, and air temperature. Measurements of water flow rates are carried out on a per-decade basis (during high water/high water periods more frequently).
In autumn, winter, and spring, observations are made of the ice situation, and in winter, observations are made of the thickness of the ice and the height of the snow on the ice.
