On April 18, 2021, the outstanding scientist gidravlik, hydrologist, one of the founders of constructive geography, geoecologist, co-chairman of the 1st and 2nd Congresses of Hydroecologists of the USSR, member of the geographical societies of the USSR and the Kazakh SSR, academician of the International Academy of Ecology and Nature Management (MAEP, Moscow), academician of the International Academy of Information, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Abai Abdurakhmanovich Tursunov passed away.
In 1956, Abai Abdurakhmanovich graduated from the Moscow Institute of Water Management Engineers with a degree in hydraulic engineering. In 1962, he defended his PhD thesis on the specialty "Hydraulics and engineering hydrology". In 1970, at the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Hydraulic Engineering. Vedeneeva defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic: "Theoretical foundations for the calculation of coastal unpressurized spillways of large dams" in the specialty "Hydraulics and engineering hydrology", and in 1974 received the title of Professor of Hydraulics.
He has trained 15 doctors of science (including 10 doctors for Kazakhstan) and more than 20 candidates of science who have publicly defended their dissertations and now work in science, education and various sectors of the economy, including Kazhydromet. He has more than 300 scientific papers, including 11 monographs. Author and initiator of 4 scientifically-reasoned recommendations to the President and the Cabinet of Ministers on key and topical issues of the Siberian transfer, saving the Aral Sea, and the Lake. Balkhash and water management, which correctly and timely oriented the decision-making bodies and helped to make a timely decision.
Abai Abdrakhmanovich Tursunov was a member of the editorial board of the journal "Hydrometeorology and Ecology"for many years.
