Temperature

The coldest month in the northern part of the country is January. For the entire observation period, which is more than a hundred years, the average temperature in the main city of the country is 14.2 °C, at night the temperature can fall below 20 °C of frost, and during the day it can rise to 10 °C. The absolute minimum in the capital was recorded in January 1893 and is 51.6 °C.
The hottest month is July: the average temperature is 20.8 °C, night temperatures average about 15.0 °C, and during the day the air warms up to 26 °C and above, on July 22, 1936, the absolute maximum air temperature in Nur-Sultan was recorded, which was +41.6 °C.
In this century (2001-2020), the highest temperature (+40.1 °C) was observed on July 7, 2005, which is below the absolute maximum by 1.5 °C. The lowest temperature ( 40.6 °C) was recorded on December 15, 2012, which is 11 degrees higher than the absolute minimum of 1893.

Wind

In all seasons of the year, the average annual wind speed over the past 20 years has decreased from 3.6 to 2.8 m / s. The prevailing wind direction has changed from the south-west to the south direction.

In all months of the year, the number of cases with calm increases. If before the 2000s, the number of cases with calm changed from 35 to 51 cases, then after that it increased from 55 to 81 cases during the year. In 2020, the maximum number of cases with calm is observed in August.

Snowstorms
The number of days with a snowstorm from 1980 to 2000 was 27 per year, and in the period from 2001 to 2020 it decreased to 14 days per year.
In all seasons of the year, days with adverse weather events such as snowstorms and dust storms are reduced. During the period from 2001 to 2020, the number of days with a snowstorm has decreased by half (from 27 days to 14 days). The number of days with a dust storm decreased from 11 to 9 days.

The severity of winter.
Data analysis shows that over the past 20 years, the characteristics of the city's winter months have changed from severe to moderately severe.

For the period from 2001 to 2020:

- the average annual wind speed has decreased from 3.6 to 2.8 m/s over the past 20 years.
- the number of cases with calm has doubled.
- the number of days with a snowstorm has become twice less (from 27 days to 14 days).
- the number of days with a dust storm has decreased from 11 to 9 days.
- the characteristics of the winter months of the city have changed from severe to moderately severe.
