Temperature regime
In September 2026, the average monthly air temperature exceeded the climatic norm by 2.38 °C, which corresponds to the 1st rank in a long-term series of observations. The previous maximum average monthly air temperature was recorded in September 1957.
In September, positive anomalies of the average monthly air temperature relative to the climatic norm were observed throughout Kazakhstan (Fig. 2).
In most of the country, the anomaly values were 1.5–3.0 °C.
The highest positive deviations — 3.0–4.1 °C — were observed mainly in North Kazakhstan, Pavlodar, Akmola and Kostanay regions, as well as in the central parts of Aktobe region and Ulytau region, the northern regions of Karaganda region and Abai region.
The most significant positive anomaly in the average monthly air temperature was 4.1 °C and was recorded at the Petropavlovsk meteorological station in the North Kazakhstan region.
According to 67.5% of meteorological stations located mainly in the northern, western, central and southern regions of the country, the average monthly air temperature corresponded to the extremely high category.
These values were among the 5% highest for the entire observation period, with a probability of not exceeding 95-100%.
Precipitation mode
In September 2026, precipitation was below the climatic norm by 8.49 mm, which corresponds to the 4th rank among the driest September for the period 1941-2026. (Fig. 1b).
In September, precipitation deficit was observed in most of the territory of Kazakhstan (Fig. 3).
In a significant area of northern, northeastern, central, southern and eastern Kazakhstan, as well as in some areas of the western regions of the country, precipitation was less than 30% of the climatic norm, in some places - less than 10%.
At some meteorological stations, monthly precipitation values corresponded to the extremely low category (the probability of non—excess was up to 5%).
During September, precipitation was completely absent at 23 meteorological stations in the Kyzylorda, Turkestan, Zhambyl, Karaganda and Almaty regions, as well as in the Abai and Zhetisu regions.
Precipitation in excess of 120% of the climatic norm was observed locally in various regions of Kazakhstan.
The most significant positive precipitation anomalies were recorded in certain areas of West Kazakhstan, Mangistau, Kostanay, Kyzylorda, Turkestan and Almaty regions.
At the same time, the maximum monthly precipitation amounts in some places reached 310% of the climatic norm.
