Management of research of mudflow processes and forecasting of mudflows

The Department of Research of mudflow processes and forecasting of mudflows is a scientific and production division of the RSE "Kazhydromet" Research Center. The Department provides information about the mudflow hazard of rain genesis to state and economic management bodies, mass media and the population of the Republic of Kazakhstan in order to preserve people's lives and health, as well as reduce economic damage.

 

 

Main areas of activity:

Monitoring of mudflow hazard of rain genesis.
Preparation and timely issuance of operational forecasts, storm warnings about the threat of catastrophic mudflows of rain genesis in the basins of the Kishi and Ulken rivers of Almaty, as well as consultations on the mudflow hazard caused by intensive prolonged rains for the mountainous territories of Kazakhstan.
Providing public authorities at various levels and the population of the Republic of Kazakhstan with information about the mudflow hazard of rain genesis.
Conducting research on mudflow issues:
-Development and improvement of methods for forecasting mudflows of rain genesis.
-Development and improvement of methods for forecasting icy mudflows.
-Study of the nature of mudflow phenomena.
-Study of the impact of climate change on mudflow activity.
-Development and improvement of methods for calculating the characteristics of mudflows.

Daily bulletin of mudflow hazard of rain genesis, including consultations on mudflow hazard for mudflow-prone areas: Almaty, Zhetysu, Zhambyl, Turkestan, Mangystau, Abai and East Kazakhstan regions. Human resources potential:

Employees of the department have many years of experience in research and production work on mudflow issues. The department consists of specialists with a PhD degree. According to the results of the research, the staff of the department published several hundred scientific papers in Kazakhstan, near and far abroad, including a Map of the mudflow hazard of the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan and 6 monographs.
