During the month, abnormally hot and dry weather was observed in most of Kazakhstan. The average monthly air temperature in August was 1-6°C above the climatic norm in most of the country, especially in the western and southern regions. August 2021, according to the temperature regime, repeated the scenario of 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016. According to the distribution of precipitation, the last time such a dry weather was observed was in 2014, 2016.
On the hottest days in the western and southern regions, the air temperature reached +38+46°C. For example, on August 8, the highest air temperature of +45.7°C was recorded at the Akkuduk weather station (Mangystau region), but in 2011 it was higher than +46.5°C.
In August, there was also a cold snap, in the middle and at the end of the month, the northern anticyclone caused a decrease in air temperature in the north, in the center and in the east of the country, when at night the air temperature dropped to + 3+7°C, in the afternoon to +15+20°C. In the south-east of the republic, a wave of cold was observed in mid-August, the air temperature dropped to +3+10°C at night, to +20+25°C during the day, to +13+18°C in the mountainous regions of Almaty and Zhambyl regions.
In the city of Nur-Sultan, the lowest air temperature was recorded on August 30 (+17.3°C), the highest was observed on August 7 (+33.9°C). There were no record indicators, since in 2012, 2014, during the month in the northern capital, the daily maximum was +36+38°C.
