According to the appeal of residents of the city of Nur-Sultan, RSE "Kazhydromet" informs that for the period from 00:00 to 15:00 hours on 10/28/2021, according to the monitoring post for the quality of atmospheric air PNZ 8 (Babatayuly Street, Lyceum School 40 named after A. Margulan), minor exceedances of the standards of maximum permissible concentrations for hydrogen sulfide in the range of 1.25-1.75 MPC were recorded. The wind direction is south-southeast 2-7 m/s.
These exceedances are not critical, an operational message is sent to the Department of Ecology of Nur-Sultan with a 10-fold
excess of the MPC.
Earlier, at the request of residents of the Koktal-1 district and the Akimat of the Saryarkinsky district, the laboratory. RSE "Kazhydromet" together with the Department of Ecology in Nur-Sultan conducted unscheduled air quality measurements in the area of school 40 named after A. Marnulan in order to identify the source of air pollution with hydrogen sulfide. According to the results, exceedances of up to 8 MPC were detected at the point of discharge of "AS" machines "Astana su Arnasy" (1 km from the Lyceum School No. 40 named after A. Margulan), from where hydrogen sulfide in insignificant concentrations spreads through the area in the direction of the wind.
The mobile application "Airkz" online displays the actual concentrations of pollutants in micrograms/m3 according to international practice (previously concentrations were displayed in mg/m3, however, at the request of the public, the units of measurement were converted to micrograms/m3. This measure was necessary for ease of perception, since mg/m3 is 1000 times less than micrograms/m3. For example, 0.008 mg/m3 and 8 micrograms/m3 are the same concentration, but 0.008 is visually perceived to be greatly underestimated).
We note that with the onset of the winter period, a decrease in air temperature, as well as windless weather, the accumulation of pollutants and an increase in their content in the atmospheric air is possible.
