Global warming continues! In general, 2020 was among the three warmest years for the Globe during the period of instrumental observations. The global temperature in 2020 was approximately 1.2±0.1 °C higher than the pre-industrial temperature of 1850-1900. All the extremely warm years on a global scale have occurred in the last 20 years.
In order to provide reliable scientific information about the regional climate, its variability and change, Kazhydromet RSE has been issuing annual climate bulletins since 2010. According to monitoring data, the climate of Kazakhstan is also getting warmer. On average, the average annual air temperature in Kazakhstan in 2020 was 1.92 C higher than the climatic norm for the period 1961 - 1990, and this is the first value in the ranked series of the warmest years for the period 1941 - 2020.
But the climate changes in Kazakhstan due to its geographical location and vast territory are not uniform both in terms of territory and seasons. As a result, these changes can have both negative and positive effects on the biophysical systems, economic activity and social sphere of the Republic.
