An online course for industry specialists on meteorological and climate services in the energy sector of Central Asia will start on February 21, 2022. The organizers are RSE "Kazhydromet", the Kazakh-German University in Almaty, the World Council for Energy and Meteorology, the World Meteorological Organization and the World Bank.
In this course, students will learn about the impact of weather and climate on energy systems and their importance for ensuring the efficient and effective use of renewable, clean energy sources. Participants will receive theoretical knowledge and practical tools for developing and providing their own meteorological and climate services. The course includes presentations by leading experts on real-world applications and advanced practical approaches to the use of this knowledge.
Main topics of classes:
- Why meteorological and climate services are important for energy management;
- Application of meteorological and climate services for the energy sector with reference to the water and agricultural sectors.
Most countries in the Central Asian region are striving to abandon coal and natural gas and move to more sustainable options with low carbon emissions. However, since weather and climate factors affect energy supply and demand, significant efforts in infrastructure, investment, planning, operation, policy and management are needed to achieve these goals.
To this end, meteorological and climate services can be used to ensure maximum energy efficiency, economic viability of technologies and public recognition of energy system management from both the supply and demand sides.
