The expected volumes of moisture reserves in the north and center of the republic, compiled according to hydrometeorological observations and measurements as of March 1, 2022, indicate the need to be ready for flooding in these regions. In the south and south-west of the republic, according to data on snow reserves and the amount of precipitation, low water is predicted.

However, precipitation is expected in March-April (also, according to long-term observations, a monthly precipitation rate may fall per day, which may lead to the occurrence of dangerous natural hydrometeorological phenomena). On the territory of Akmola, North Kazakhstan and Kostanay regions, in the river basins, the volume of moisture reserves is observed to be insignificant (up to 16%) exceeding the levels of long-term average values, which, with heavy precipitation, can lead to the occurrence of talo-rain floods.

Water reserves in the snow cover in the basins of the lowland rivers of Kazakhstan are characterized by great unevenness: in the Karaganda and Atyrau regions below the average annual values by 10-45% and 24%, respectively; in the Akmola, North Kazakhstan and Kostanay regions above the average annual values by 16%; in Aktobe and West Kazakhstan regions within the average annual value.

Currently, the process of snow accumulation continues. According to the remote sensing images of NASA satellites processed by Kazhydromet RSE, as of March 1, 2022, the area of the territory of Kazakhstan covered with snow is 65%.

According to the results of route surveys conducted in October-November 2021, there was a shortage of moisture reserves in the predominant territory of grain-growing regions before going into winter.

Low moisture reserves were observed in the upper arable soil layer (0-20 cm) throughout the country, with the exception of some districts of Karaganda, Akmola, North Kazakhstan, Kostanay, Atyrau, Aktobe and West Kazakhstan regions.

In the meter layer of soil, insufficient moisture reserves were mainly formed in the west, north, east of the republic, as well as mainly in the Zhambyl and Turkestan regions.

The conditions of moisture accumulation were most favorable in the Karaganda region, where generally satisfactory and optimal conditions of humidification in the meter layer of soil were formed.
hydrometeorological monitoring data as of March 1, 2022 are presented in the full text of the main flood forecast, which is available on the website of RSE "Kazhydromet", as well as information on the expected volume of spring flood runoff will be provided on a weekly basis in open access at the link https://kazhydromet.kz/ru/gidrologiya/gidrologicheskiy-prognoz/2022
It is noted that according to the advisory synoptic weather forecast, March 2022 is expected to be mostly warm and with precipitation near normal in most of the country.
The main forecast for the growing season for the rivers of the mountainous territory will be compiled in the first decade of April 2022.
