Weekly hydrological forecast for the period from March 12 to 18, 2022

The area of the territory of Kazakhstan covered with snow, calculated by RSE "Kazhydromet" according to NASA satellite images, for the period from March 3 to March 10, 2022, decreased from 64% to 52%.
Based on the weekly synoptic forecast for March 14-18, 2022, under the influence of a Southern cyclone, unstable weather is expected in most of the country. Rain is forecast mainly in the southern regions, precipitation in the form of snow in the northern regions. On March 14-18, rain is forecast in Turkestan, Zhambyl, Almaty regions, heavy rain in the south of Almaty region, heavy precipitation in the form of rain and snow in mountainous areas, and therefore, the formation of slope runoff is expected in the foothill areas of the above regions.
In the south of the Karaganda and East Kazakhstan regions, a positive background of air temperature remains during the day up to 2-7 degrees Celsius.
The volume of accumulated moisture reserves in the basins of the lowland rivers of Kazakhstan was as follows:
- in the Karaganda, Akmola, Aktobe and West Kazakhstan regions decreased on average from 19 to 50%;
- the Kostanay region increased by 17%.

On the mountain rivers of East Kazakhstan, Turkestan, Zhambyl and Almaty regions, flood runoff formed on the territory of the country depends on heavy precipitation.
For mountain rivers of East Kazakhstan, Almaty, Zhambyl and Turkestan regions, data on snow reserves will be presented in the first days of April 2022.
According to long-term observations at weather stations in March and April, a monthly precipitation rate may fall per day, which can lead to the occurrence of dangerous natural hydrometeorological phenomena.
