The calendar spring came on the first of March, but it was in no hurry to come into its own, during the month heat waves were often replaced by waves of cold, snowfalls, blizzards, especially it was noticeable at the end of March.
At the beginning of the month, with the release of the cyclone from the Mediterranean Sea, a heat wave was recorded almost throughout the territory of the republic, in connection with which, in the daytime in the southwest of the country, long-term air temperature values were blocked, namely at the meteorological stations of the Mangystau region: Akkuduk, Aktau, Fort Shevchenko. For example, on March 3, the air warmed up to +24.6°C at the Akkuduk weather station, thereby updating the 2008 record (+22.2 °C), +18.4 °C was recorded at the Aktau weather station, when in 2017 the air temperature reached +15.1 °C, the Fort Shevchenko weather station observed the highest the high air temperature is +17.5 ° C, thus the record of 2016 was blocked (+14.5 ° C).
The weather in the second decade of the month was unstable, on the contrary, there was an intense wave of cold in most of the republic, and therefore, records of minimum air temperature values were updated, which were recorded at the end of the second decade in the north and northeast of Kazakhstan. For example, on March 17, the lowest air temperature was observed at the Blagoveshchenka weather station (North Kazakhstan region) -28.7 °C (in 1960 it was -27.8 °C), -24.9 °C was recorded at the Bayanaul weather station (Pavlodar region), as a result of which the previous record was updated, which was -23.0 °C in 1988.
With the exits of the southern cyclones, heavy precipitation took place in the southern part of the country: on March 6, very heavy rain was observed at the Tasaryk weather station (Turkestan region), half of the monthly norm fell – 45.9 mm (with a monthly norm of 102 mm), on March 26, very heavy rain was observed at the Kohazhmetov meteorological station (Turkestan region) - 36.2 mm (at a rate of 46 mm per month).
In the third decade of March, adverse weather conditions were observed, such as strong wind, blizzard, heavy rain, heavy snow, heavy fog. In the south, in the center and in the north of the country, on some days, wind gusts reached 30-38 m/s.
At the end of the month, stormy weather was observed in the north, northeast and south of the republic, and a storm warning was announced for most of the country. With the active activity of the Northern Cyclone and the aggravation of the atmospheric frontal sections, there was an increase in wind, a blizzard, precipitation passed, in places strong. On March 29, a very strong wind with gusts up to 31 m/s was observed at the weather stations of Esik, Kegen, Sharyn (Almaty region), very heavy snow was observed at the weather station of Shymkent (Almaty region), 24.2 mm fell (with a monthly norm of 82 mm), at the automatic weather station (AMS) Baiterek (Nur-Sultan), the Yerementau weather station (Akmola region), the AMS CES (Pavlodar region), etc., a hurricane wind of 31-34 m/s with a blizzard and a deterioration in visibility up to 50 m was observed.
