In the middle troposphere, over the territory of Kazakhstan, the high-altitude trough of the cyclone prevailed for a month, in the surface layer - an extensive anticyclone that shifted from the Baltic regions. The arrival of Arctic air along the eastern periphery of the anticyclone caused negative air temperature anomalies in the eastern half of the republic. So, the cool weather with the first echoes of autumn fell in the middle of the month, when the air temperature in the north, center, east and southeast dropped at night to +3 +10 ° C, in the afternoon to +12+20 ° C.
The exception was the western regions, where for most of the month, along the western periphery of the anticyclone, warm air was carried out from the regions of Iran and the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. The thermometer columns reached +35+41°C during the day. Such high values of air temperature were not record values, since in the entire history of meteorological observations, air temperatures rose to +40 +46 °C. Nevertheless, daily records of air temperatures were recorded at a number of meteorological stations in the Mangystau region. For example, at the Aktau weather station, the highest air temperature was observed on August 15 and amounted to +40.1 ° C, which became a record indicator, the last time the maximum on the same day was recorded in 2008 (+39.2 °C.), at the Fort Shevchenko weather station on August 16, the highest air temperature was +40.2 ° C, breaking the record of 2012, when on this day the maximum air temperature was +39.3 °C.
Against the background of the prevailing high atmospheric pressure, there was a shortage of precipitation in most of Kazakhstan. Only in the first decade of the month, a series of atmospheric fronts associated with two cyclone centers over the Scandinavian Peninsula and a cyclone over Eastern Siberia caused inclement weather with heavy rains in the northern, central, eastern and southeastern regions of the republic, where 15 to 37 mm fell during the day. So, for example, on August 1, 31 mm fell in a day at the Osakarovka weather station (Karaganda region), on August 5 at the Tasty weather station (Turkestan region) - 37 mm, on August 7 in the North Kazakhstan region, 15 mm fell at the Upland weather station, 21 mm fell at the Chkalovo weather station, on August 9 at the Arshaly weather station (Akmola region) - 23 mm . In addition to heavy rains at the AMC (automatic weather station) Dostyk (Zhetysu region) increased the north-westerly wind to the criteria of a spontaneous meteorological weather phenomenon (SGM) reaching 31-35 m/s.
