A seminar for employees of hydrometeorological services of Central Asian countries was held in Astana on September 20-22. The topic of the seminar is the introduction of digital databases on meteorology, climatology and hydrology (MSN). The seminar was attended by representatives of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Employees of RSE "Kazhydromet" in 2017 introduced the first version of the MSN electronic database, which includes readings on daily changes in the level of reservoirs, water temperature and much more. Over the past five years, the developers of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) have improved it, added several modules for calculating various hydrological characteristics, for example, calculating the forecast for floods, flooding or shallowing of reservoirs.
To date, only employees of RSE "Kazhydromet" use the MSN base in their work, and therefore a seminar for Central Asian Services was held at RSE "Kazhydromet".
The participants of the introductory course discussed the practical use of MSN, considered the methods of daily calculations of water consumption for hydrologists. Following the meeting, the meteorological services of the Central Asian countries came to a decision to use identical databases for the possibility of rapid data exchange in a single format.
