In the first decade of the month, the passage of a series of Atlantic cyclones filled with heat and moisture caused comfortable weather in Kazakhstan. Record figures were observed both in temperature and precipitation. For example, on January 02, the highest air temperature of +9.4 ° C was recorded at the Atyrau weather station (Atyrau region), thereby the record of 1958 was blocked, (+5.4 ° C), at the Zhanaushtogan weather station (Atyrau region) the maximum air temperature was +10.2 °C, the last time on the same day the absolute maximum was recorded in 1971 (+7.8 °C), at the Kulsary weather station (Atyrau region) the thermometer columns reached +5.7 °C, the record of 1958 was exceeded (+3.9 °C), at the Taipak weather station (West Kazakhstan region) the highest air temperature was +6.4 ° C, thereby breaking the record of 1948, when the air temperature was +4.3 °C. On January 05, records for maximum air temperature were observed at a number of meteorological stations: at the weather station Aralsk (Kyzylorda region), the air temperature was +3.8 ° C, the record of 1948 was blocked (+2.9 ° C), at the weather station Balkhash (Karaganda region) the thermometer columns reached +2.4 °C, thereby the record of 2010 (+2 °C) was blocked at the weather station Yesil (Akmola region) the maximum air temperature was +0.9 °C, on the same day in 1979 the air temperature was 0 °, at the Semey weather station (Abai region), the record air temperature reached +3.5 °C, the record of 1979 (+3 ° C) was blocked. January 08 at the Kishkenekol weather station (North Kazakhstan region) an absolute maximum of +2.0 °C was recorded, thus the record of 2022 (+1.1 °C) was blocked.
There was also very heavy snow, which reached the criteria of natural hydrometeorological phenomena (OHS). For example, there was a very heavy snowfall in the Turkestan region: on January 02-03 at the Achisai weather station, the amount of precipitation was 31.4-53 mm, with a norm of 72 mm, on January 03 at the weather station im. Kozhakhmetova - 37.7 mm (norm 52 mm). January 05 at the AMS (automatic meteorological station) Sogra (East Kazakhstan region) very heavy snow was recorded - 20 mm. At the end of the decade on January 09-10 at the Shuyldak weather station (Turkestan region) there was very heavy snow – 27.2 mm, with a norm of 72 mm. In Zhambyl region on January 03, 06, a very strong wind was observed, gusts reached 30-36 m/s: on January 03 at the weather stations Taraz, Karatau and Saudakent, as well as on the AMC Yntymak, on January 06 at the AMC Nurlykent; on January 10 at the AMC Pass Zhosaly Kezen (Almaty region), on the AMC Dostyk (Zhetisu region).
On January 10, a very strong fog with a visibility of 50 m was observed on Zharkent M (Zhetisu region).
In the second and third decades, the anticyclonic type of weather prevailed on the territory of the republic, with no precipitation and weak wind. With the influence of the North-Western anticyclone and the strengthening of the Mongolian anticyclone, frosty days were observed in most of the republic, even marked
temperature records in both northern and southern regions of the country. For example, on January 10, at the Aktau weather station (Mangystau region), the minimum air temperature was -15.9 ° C, thereby the record of 1974 (-13 °C) was blocked, at the Yesil weather station (Akmola region) the thermometer columns reached -41 °C, the last time on the same day the absolute minimum was recorded in 1996 and amounted to -36.5 ° C, at the Karabutak weather station (Aktobe region), the record air temperature reached -34.7 °C, which exceeded the record of 2015
(-25.7 °C), at the Mugodzharskaya weather station (Aktobe region) on the same day, the minimum air temperature was -32.3 ° C, thereby updating the record of 1996, when the air temperature was -26.7 °C. January 13 was a record in the southern regions of the country. For example, at the Taraz weather station (Zhambyl region) the thermometer columns reached -26.9 °, the record of 1974 was blocked (-23 °C), at the Shardara weather station (Turkestan region), the record air temperature reached -22.8 °C, on the same day in 1974 the air temperature was
-16.6 °C, at the Shymkent weather station (Turkestan region), the minimum air temperature was -25.2 ° C, thereby the record indicator of 1974 was updated (-19.6 °C).
In Astana in January 2023, the lowest air temperature according to meteorological observations was recorded on January 10-11
-32.8 °C, the highest air temperature was +1.9°C on January 08. Precipitation for the month fell 26 mm, with a norm of 18 mm, which was 146% of the norm.
