On March 14, 2023, the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction organized a training to develop skills in monitoring, forecasting, mitigation and response to droughts in the Republic of Kazakhstan at the national and local levels, based on the best experience and practice. The event was organized as part of the implementation of the component of the UNDP project in Kazakhstan "Creation of a drought response system based on monitoring and forecasting of droughts". The seminar was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, RSE "Kazhydromet", RSE "Kazvodkhoz" and employees of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Atameken".
Experts presented measures to strengthen the capacity of the Republic of Kazakhstan in forecasting, mitigation and response to droughts at the national and local levels.
They presented opportunities to improve methods of forecasting droughts, discussed issues of interaction between government agencies in terms of warning about the onset of droughts and taking measures in the agricultural sector.
