Long-term meteorological observations are part of the irreplaceable cultural and scientific heritage of mankind, serving the needs of present and future generations in long-term high-quality climate records. In 2022, Kazhydromet RSE celebrated its centenary, but continuous and high-quality observations of the weather in our country were conducted much longer.
Since 2017 and 2020, the Executive Council of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has included 14 weather stations of Kazakhstan in the world list of centennial observation stations: "Akkol", "Aral Tenizi", "Atbasar", "Irgiz", "Kazaly", "Mikhaylovka", "Turkestan", "Fort Shevchenko", "Merke", "Kokshetau", "Aktobe", "Torgai", "Semiyarka" and "Zharkent".
But in Kazakhstan there are more than 35 meteorological stations with a century-old history of observations. In May 2023, the WMO included in this list 7 more weather stations and hydro posts in Kazakhstan: "T.Ryskulova aul", "Esik", "Pavlodar", "Taraz", "Yavlenka" and hydro posts "Fort Shevchenko" (marine) and "Kushum" (river). Work on the inclusion of all weather stations in Kazakhstan is being carried out in stages.
