In early May, the northern, central, eastern, and southern regions, on the contrary, received cold air masses from the regions of Eastern Siberia, which led to a decrease in air temperature to frost: at night in the Karaganda region on May 2 at the Aktogay weather station, the air temperature was -6.8 ° C, the record of 1969 was closed (-5.0 ° C), on May 3 the temperature of -7.8 ° C was recorded at the Aktogay weather station, thereby the record of 2002 was blocked (-3.7 ° C), at the Ridder weather station (East Kazakhstan region) the minimum air temperature was -5.2 ° C, in 1985 the air temperature was -4,5 °C, on May 4 at the Aktogay weather station (Karaganda region), the record air temperature reached -8 °C, the record of 1997 was blocked (-5.1 °C), on May 5 at the Taraz weather station (Zhambyl region), the minimum temperature of -1.1 °C was recorded, thereby the record of 1998 was blocked (+0.5 °C).

In Astana in May 2023, the lowest air temperature according to meteorological observations was recorded at night on May 3 and amounted to -2.0 °C, the highest air temperature was observed on May 31 +33.1 ° C.
