The first meeting of the Committee for the Management of Rapidly Developing Floods

Recognizing the catastrophic impact of flash floods on the lives and property of the affected population, the World Meteorological Organization on June 16-17, 2023 in the Republic of North Macedonia (Skopje) organized the First meeting of the Committee for Managing the Program of the Rapid Flood Forecasting System.  The event was attended by more than 30 representatives of meteorological and hydrological services of Regional Centers for rapidly developing floods.
The Republic of Kazakhstan, represented by the National Hydrometeorological Service, is a Regional center for rapidly developing floods in Central Asia. Deputy Director General Serik Sairov took part in the meeting from Kazakhstan. The meeting considered the "Implementation Plan for a flash Flood warning system with global coverage", which is necessary to ensure the sustainability of the Risk Assessment System for rapidly developing floods with global coverage in the long term. The plan is a roadmap and is intended to guide efforts that contribute to sustainability.
The meeting also considered issues on rapid flood response and recommendations. During the meeting, the Chairman of the Program Management Committee (Representative of the Republic of India) and the Deputy Chairman (Representative of the Republics of Indonesia) were elected.
