On June 26-27, 2023, a sub-regional seminar on supporting accession to the Protocol on Water and Health was held in Belgrade, Serbia. The organizers were the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) with the support of the Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Organization (WHO/Europe) in cooperation with the Government of Serbia. The event included an exchange of views on the benefits of joining the UNECE-WHO/EUROPE Protocol, as well as a discussion of technical work between Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Serbia.
The workshop is intended for representatives of the Ministries of Water Resources/Environment and Health of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Specialists of RSE "Kazhydromet" took part from the Kazakh side.
The main purpose of the seminar is to support Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in joining the Protocol. The Protocol is to ensure the protection of human health and well–being through sustainable management of water resources, including the protection of aquatic ecosystems, as well as limiting the spread of water-related diseases. At the meeting, the participants also had a unique opportunity to get acquainted with Serbia's experience in using the Protocol platform and tools.
