The International Day of the Caspian Sea is celebrated on August 12, which is an important reminder of the environmental and social problems of the region, as well as the need for cooperation of the Caspian states. It was on this day that the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea (the Tehran Convention), which was developed with the assistance of the UN Environment Program, entered into force and was signed by representatives of the governments of five Caspian littoral countries: Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan.
RSE "Kazhydromet" carries out environmental monitoring of the quality of seawater and bottom sediments in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea, conducts hydrometeorological monitoring and studies of the Caspian Sea.
