From February 29 to March 1, 2024, a regional seminar on the second phase of the Project for the Modernization of Hydrometeorological Services of Central Asia (SANMR II) was held in Almaty.
The event was organized by the World Bank in order to improve the accuracy and timeliness of hydrometeorological services in Central Asia. The second workshop aims to provide participants with the opportunity to develop a roadmap for regional cooperation within the framework of the proposed Project and coordinate steps to prepare further work activities.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as GU Kazselezashchita, RSE Kazaeronavigation and RSE Kazhydromet.
Danara Alimbayeva, General Director of Kazhydromet RSE, noted the results of the first phase of the project in her speech, briefly focused on the most pressing issues and voiced proposals for the second phase.
- Our activity generates and processes an increasing amount of data every year, which inevitably leads to the need to modernize computing capacities. The opening of new hydrological and agrometeorological posts, as well as the development of the existing aerological observation network, will improve the quality of weather forecasting and climate change by collecting more accurate and extensive data on the state of the atmosphere. Automation of water level and flow monitoring will allow you to receive up-to-date data around the clock and improve monitoring of water resources. In addition, it will make it possible to eliminate distrust of the measured data in the border areas, D. Alimbayeva stressed.
