Kazhydromet considers it necessary to explain why in the AirKZ mobile application the graduation limit is set as 1 MPC, and in the newsletter the case of high pollution is defined as 10 MPC.
The difference is in the purpose of the information:
The AirKZ mobile app and interactive map are designed to provide the public with access to air quality information. In Kazakhstan, there is an air SanPiN, in which maximum permissible concentrations (MPC) are set, focused on human health. According to the position of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, exceeding 1 MPC has a negative impact on the health of the population. Therefore, RSE "Kazhydromet" has established 1 MPC as the upper criterion of indications, so that users of the mobile application know in which areas of cities air pollution exceeds the established norms.
When pollution exceeds 10 MPC, the situation reaches a critical level at which prompt response of state structures is required. In such cases, RSE "Kazhydromet" signals to the authorized state body (CERC MAGiPR RK) on the need to take measures to identify the source of pollution and eliminate its influence. In order for the population to have information about the number of such registered situations, information about "Cases of high pollution of more than 10 MPC" is published in newsletters.
