Published 19.03.2024 On March 19, 2024, a round table was held online with representatives of the National Hydrometeorological Services (NGMS) of the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Due to the fact that Kazakhstan holds the SCO presidency from July 2023 to June 2024, and 2024 has been declared the SCO Year of Ecology, our country decided to hold an event dedicated to the main theme of the year. The Round Table also coincided with World Meteorological Day, the theme of which this year is "On the front line of the fight against climate change."
The main purpose of the event is the exchange of ideas and experiences, as well as the creation of partnerships for collaboration. The main issues for discussion were the contribution of young professionals to monitoring and adaptation to climate change, as well as international cooperation in this area.
The Round Table was attended by representatives of the NGMS of India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
In her welcoming speech, Danara Alimbayeva, Director General of Kazhydromet RSE, drew attention to the fact that the consequences of climate change know no borders and require joint efforts of all countries. Cooperation between the SCO member states in the field of monitoring and adaptation to climate change is of particular importance, it can become a foundation for strengthening trust and stability in the region, as well as contribute to the sustainable economic development of our countries.
