Hydrological forecast for mountain rivers of Kazakhstan for the growing season 2024

For mountain rivers (south, south-east and east of Kazakhstan) the main indicator of future water availability is the sum of precipitation for the period of water accumulation starting from October 1, 2023 to April 1, 2024.
According to remote sensing images of the earth, the area of snow coverage of mountainous areas of Kazakhstan, as of April 7, 2024,

- Zhambyl oblast is 2%;
- Turkestan region is 2%;
- Almaty oblast is 14%;
- Zhetisu oblast is 18%;
- Abay region makes 9%;
- East Kazakhstan region makes 63%.

According to long-term observations at meteorological stations, a monthly norm of precipitation may fall in a day, which may lead to the occurrence of dangerous natural hydrometeorological phenomena. In case of increased temperature background and heavy rains in the mountain rivers of the south, south-east and east of Kazakhstan high rain floods are possible.
