Spring came into its own in Kazakhstan much later than last year.
The weather in March was very changeable. Heat waves were replaced by cold waves, and the frequent passage of cyclones and atmospheric fronts through the territory of Kazakhstan caused excessive precipitation in most of the country. So, for example, on March 20, 16 mm fell on the Aktau weather station (MS) per day, with a monthly norm of 15 mm, also on March 21, 21 mm fell on MS Kyzylorda, with a monthly norm of 15 mm, 37 mm fell on MS Tasta (Turkestan region), with a norm of 20 mm, on March 26 26 mm fell on MS Uralsk, with a norm of 25 mm.
During March, there were not only fogs, ice, but also early thunderstorms. The first thunderstorms were observed on March 21 in Turkestan, Zhambyl regions, and on March 28 in Karaganda, Almaty, Zhambyl, and Turkestan regions.
March is characterized by sharp fluctuations in air temperature and a large daily course. For example, in Akmola region on March 18, at MS Balkashino at night the air temperature was -20.5 °C, and in the afternoon it rose to +2.3 °C, at MS Shchuchinsk at night the air temperature was -19.6 °C, in the afternoon - +1.1 °C.
It was only in the third decade of the month that the residents of the republic felt the real spring. The air temperature began to rise throughout the country, in the afternoon in the northern half of the republic to +5+15 °C, in the south of the republic it warmed up to +17+27 °C.
In the capital, the average air temperature for the month was 1.6° above normal. The lowest air temperature was recorded on March 14 and amounted to -18.3°C, the highest air temperature was recorded on March 26 and amounted to +9.8°C. Precipitation fell 20 mm, with a monthly norm of 22 mm.
