The National Hydrometeorological Service of Kazakhstan, together with the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL, has prepared the book Natural debris flows and field experiments in Kazakhstan (Natural mudflows and field experiments in Kazakhstan). This book is a translation of the research results of researchers from the mudflow Department of the Kazakh Research Hydrometeorological Institute. This book can be found and downloaded for free on the website of the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL https://www.dora.lib4ri.ch/wsl/islandora/object/wsl:37615
The book consists of two parts: catastrophic natural mudflows in the Trans-Ili Alatau and data obtained during the Chemolgan experiments on the reproduction of artificial mudflows on a natural scale. The consumption of the artificial mudflow was such that ten wagons with a load capacity of 80 tons could be loaded in one tenth of a second.
Until now, the Chemolgan experiments have aroused the admiration and interest of specialists, the results of these studies are used in the development of new methods for predicting mudflows and calculating their characteristics, designing mudflow protection structures and measures aimed at reducing the damage caused by mudflows. The film about the Chemolgan experiments is available on our YouTube channel, which can be viewed by clicking on the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlYNHqqGjPo  .
