On October 31, 2024, in St. Petersburg, Russia, the North Eurasian Climate Center held the 27th session of the North Eurasian Climate Forum (CEACOF-27), which took place as a parallel event within the framework of the VIII All-Russian Joint Meteorological and Hydrological Congress. This year's congress and session are timed to coincide with the 190th anniversary of Roshydromet.
During the CEACOF-27, estimates of climate change in the territory of Northern Eurasia, an analysis of the main features of circulation for the summer season of 2024 and a draft consensus forecast of temperature and precipitation for the winter of 2024-2025 were presented.
CEACOF-27 was combined with a seminar under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), whose special program is aimed at minimizing the risks of various areas of the economy from natural disasters. During the session, an experimental assessment of the likely impact of climatic anomalies on agriculture and water resources in the winter of 2024-2025 for the region of Northern Eurasia, including the region of Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan), was presented for the first time.
From Kazakhstan, Zhuldyz Isabekova, Head of the Department of Long-term weather Forecasts of Kazhydromet RSE, made a report on “Climate monitoring for the summer season 2024 and a review of forecasts for the winter season 2024-2025 for the territory of Kazakhstan”. The report summarizes the results of analytical studies of our region and highlights the picture of climate risks and forecasting features.
