On November 14-15, 2024, a workshop for stakeholders was held at the Federal Institute of Hydrology in Koblenz, Germany, as part of the project to develop an effective multisectoral global drought hazard forecasting system (OUTLAST). The event was organized by the Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG) with the support of the UNESCO Center and the WMO Hydrology Action Plan for 2022-2030.
OUTLAST is a research project to develop a global early warning system for the dangers of drought. The first two regional seminars were successfully held in Nairobi, Kenya in September 2023 and Almaty, Kazakhstan in October 2023. The scientific course was attended by 10 stakeholders from 8 countries, as well as 20 representatives of WMO, BfG researchers and the OUTLAST team.
The main purpose of the workshop is to gather valuable ideas and points of view from stakeholders and integrate this information into drought hazard indicators in the most informative way.
From Kazakhstan, the head of the Department of Agrometeorological Forecasting of Kazhydromet RSE Kamar Salieva made a report on "Drought monitoring and forecasting of arid conditions in Kazakhstan".
