The fourth meeting of the Kazakh-Russian Commission for the Conservation of the ecosystem of the Zhaiyk River

On December 12, 2024, the fourth meeting of the Kazakh-Russian Commission for the Conservation of the ecosystem of the transboundary Zhaiyk River basin (Ural) was held.
The discussion was attended by Aliyev Zh.Sh. - Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Turganov D.N. - deputy of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Tarasenko E.I. Chairman of the Public Association "Ecological and Tourist Movement "Bizdin Zhaiyk-Our Urals", specialists of RSE "Kazhydromet", as well as representatives of local executive bodies, social activists and activists. The Russian side was represented by specialists from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation.
The following aspects were considered during the meeting:
- Implementation of the Kazakh-Russian Cooperation Program for the conservation and Restoration of the ecosystem of the transboundary Zhaiyk River basin (Ural) for 2021-2024.
- The results of monitoring the water quality of the Zhaiyk River basin (Ural) in the transboundary areas of the territories of Kazakhstan and Russia.
- Issues of conservation and restoration of floodplain forests in the basin of the Zhaiyk River (Ural).
- Issues of conservation and reproduction of sturgeon in the Zhaiyk River (Ural).
- Issues of formation of social and ecological consciousness and culture of careful attitude to the basin of the transboundary river Zhaiyk (Ural).
Special attention was paid to environmental monitoring issues. The results of the fourth meeting demonstrate that effective international cooperation can lead to real changes. Issues related to the protection of transboundary ecosystems require concerted action, and the Commission for the Conservation of the Zhaiyk River ecosystem is a vivid example of how neighboring countries can work towards achieving a common goal.
