In the second decade of December, in the south and south-east of the republic, in areas where winter crops were cultivated, the temperature background was mostly higher than normal. Winter grain crops were in a state of winter dormancy.
In the observed areas of the Almaty region and the Zhetisu region, the minimum air temperature dropped to minus 19...23C and the minimum soil temperature at a depth (3 cm) of the winter wheat tillering node dropped to minus 3...5C. The depth of soil freezing ranged from 3-13 cm to 22-27 cm. In the Almaty region, in the areas of winter grain cultivation, winter crops were under a snow cover with a height of 7-11 cm throughout the decade, in the Zhetysu region, the height of the snow cover increased and at the end of the decade amounted to 12-30 cm.
In the areas of winter grain cultivation in Zhambyl and Turkestan regions, the average air temperature was minus 2...8 °C, which is 1-3 °C below normal. The minimum air temperature dropped to minus 15-20 °C in places (minus 25 °C) and the minimum soil temperature at a depth (3 cm) of the winter wheat tillering node dropped to minus 1...7 °C. Precipitation in the form of snow was almost everywhere, the height of the snow cover ranged from 8-12 cm to 19-28 cm, in some areas of the Zhambyl region, the height of the snow cover was 5 cm or less, which may affect the winter hardiness of underdeveloped winter wheat crops. In most areas, the soil is frozen to a depth of 5-11 cm to 15-26 cm, and in some places the soil is thawed.
The agrometeorological conditions in the south and south-east of the republic were quite satisfactory for wintering winter crops. Low air and soil temperatures, which are dangerous for wintering crops, were not observed.
In the last decade of December, the weather conditions were favorable for grazing, and cattle were grazed everywhere in the pastures.
Frozen sod is observed in most pastures, and in some pastures in the northwest, southwest, and southeast, the sod is wet.
