In the first decade of January, in the south-east of the republic, in areas where winter crops were cultivated, the temperature background was mostly above normal, by 1...4 °C, in the south below normal by 1...2 °C, precipitation was mostly less than normal, only in the Almaty region more than normal. Winter grain crops were still in a state of winter dormancy.
In the observed areas of the Almaty region and the Zhetisu region, the minimum air temperature dropped to minus 15-20 °C and the minimum soil temperature at a depth (3 cm) of the winter wheat tillering node dropped to minus 4 ° C. The soil is frozen to a depth of 24 cm to 52 cm. In the Almaty region, in the areas of winter grain cultivation, heavy precipitation occurred, as a result of which the height of the snow cover increased to 28 cm, in the Zhetysu region, the height of the snow cover at the end of the decade was 22-29 cm.
In the areas of winter grain cultivation, the average air temperature was minus 1...4 °C, which is 1...2 °C lower than normal in the Turkestan region and 2...4 °C higher than normal in the Zhambyl region. The minimum air temperature dropped to minus 8...12 °C in places (minus 17 °C) and the minimum temperature at a depth (3 cm) of the winter wheat tillering node dropped to minus 3...9 °C. The height of the snow cover varied from 2 cm to 7 cm, in the vicinity of the Tasaryk weather station in the Turkestan region 16 cm. In areas where the snow cover is less than 5 cm high, and frequent thaws (4-7 days) have been observed, it is possible to reduce the winter hardiness of underdeveloped winter wheat crops. In most areas of the Zhambyl region, the soil froze to a depth of 7-16 cm to 27-32 cm, in the south the soil was practically thawed, only in the vicinity of the Shymkent weather station the soil froze to 12 cm and near the Kazygurt weather station 4 cm.
The agrometeorological conditions in the south and south-east of the republic for winter wheat wintering were quite satisfactory. Low air and soil temperatures, which are dangerous for wintering crops, were not observed.
In the first decade of January, weather conditions generally favored grazing, with the exception of the Alginsky district of Aktobe region, Kaztalov, Syrymsky and Zhanybeksky districts of West Kazakhstan region and Arkalyksky district of Kostanay region, where the animals were transferred to stable keeping. In the Karatal district of the Zhetisu region and in the Mangystau district of the Mangystau region, livestock breeders feed breeding stock and young animals.
Frozen sod is mainly observed on pastures, in some pastures in the Aitekebi district of the Aktobe region, in the Kurmangazinsky district of the Atyrau region, in the Shuisky district of the Zhambyl region, in the Karatal district of the Zhetisu region and in the Mangistau district of the Mangistau region, the sod is raw.
