WMO Secretary General Celeste Saulo met with Minister of Ecology Yerlan Nysanbayev

The Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization, Celeste Saulo, took part in a meeting held by the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Nysanbayev, during her visit to the country.
The parties discussed the development of the national hydrometeorological service and the strengthening of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the WMO in the face of increasing climate risks. The key role of hydrometeorological information for ensuring the safety of the population, as well as sustainable socio-economic development, water and food security was noted.
Special attention was paid to the UN global initiative "Early Warning for All", which Kazakhstan supports and considers as an important element of the system for protecting the population from natural hazards.
During the meeting, issues of modernization of the observation network, development of scientific and human resources, as well as further integration of Kazakhstan into the international data exchange systems GBON and WIGOS were discussed.
The parties also discussed the prospects for the introduction of modern technologies, including the use of artificial intelligence in hydrometeorological forecasting, and the expansion of international training programs under the auspices of the WMO.
Following the meeting, mutual interest was confirmed in further strengthening cooperation and implementing joint initiatives aimed at developing the hydrometeorological service and increasing resilience to climate challenges.
